On Thursday, November 14th, College Station City Council agreed to consider a Northgate Small Area Plan process. If ultimately approved, a planning process for Northgate and adjacent areas would be conducted with both citizen and stakeholder inputs. 

The Northgate and University Corridor is undergoing rapid redevelopment, including:

• the empty lot next to PopStroke on University Drive,
• the Culpepper redevelopment at the corner of South College and University
• a tract on Church Street soon to be redeveloped
• the “gas station” lot on University Avenue
• Hensel Park in its entirety
• the North by Northgate project in design by the City of Bryan
• the pending sale and development of the city parking lot in Northgate 
  

A “Small Area Plan” could ensure these developments are complimentary, walkable, and reflect the vision of citizens and stakeholders to the greatest extent possible. 

Data compiled by the City of College Station’s Planning & Development department indicates housing activity has slowed in 2024 while population has grown. 

College Station's population estimate for September 2024 is 129,714 based on recently issued residential certificates of occupancy. Completed single-family construction was 5% lower than January through September 2023. Platting activity in September resulted in the addition of no new residential lots.
